The National Strategic Development Plan (NSDP) 2007-2013\u00a0is a unique opportunity for planning modern education and training so that human resources for health meet current\u00a0and future needs of the population<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Aim:<\/strong> The aim of this study was to assess health professionals\u2019 training needs and life-long learning in our country,\u00a0based on population profiles, and was one of the consultation documents under the National Strategic Development\u00a0Plan (NSDP) 2007-2013<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Method:<\/strong> Demographic and epidemiological data of the Greek population were combined with relevant human resources\u00a0policies described by international organizations<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Conclusion:<\/strong> Leadership is crucial in shaping the appropriate policy and establishing goals and strategies to achieve\u00a0human resource development. Key issues to be addressed to this direction is detailed inventory of existing capacity\u00a0(numbers and characteristics), the provision for future services, improving the quality and skills, through investment\u00a0in education and training, including lifelong learning and education in new technologies.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Key words:<\/strong> Life long learning, health professional, skills, competencies.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Background: Education and training contribute to better responsiveness and performance.
