Nurse leaders who exhibit characteristics of emotional intelligence enhance staff organizational\u00a0skills and effectiveness of their work.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Aim:<\/strong> This paper aims to present an analysis of the literature on Emotional Intelligence and explore the implications\u00a0of it for the nursing leadership.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Method:<\/strong> A literature search was undertaken using international databases (MEDLINE, PUBMED) covering the period\u00a01998 to 2008. A hand-search of relevant journals added to the data.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Conclusions:<\/strong> Emotionally intelligent nurse leaders who are self-aware, supervisory skillful, capable of address the\u00a0emotional side of their staff can develop strong synergized teams, necessary for the survival during this changing\u00a0healthcare landscape.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Key words:<\/strong> Emotional intelligence, nursing administration, competence, leadership<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Background: Emotional intelligence is popular in literature as an important characteristic for successful leaders.
