{"id":2965,"date":"2015-05-16T16:12:57","date_gmt":"2015-05-16T13:12:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/journal-ene.gr\/?p=2965"},"modified":"2026-11-05T16:54:51","modified_gmt":"2026-11-05T14:54:51","slug":"society-organisation-models-perception-of-illness-and-policy-implementation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/periodiko.yaba.gr\/en\/society-organisation-models-perception-of-illness-and-policy-implementation\/","title":{"rendered":"Society organisation models, perception of illness and policy implementation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Introduction:<\/strong> This paper refers to two different approaches to the concepts of health and illness, the\u00a0dominant biomedical model on the one hand and the perspective of public health and health sociology on\u00a0the other.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Purpose:<\/strong> The presentation of the biomedical model which dominated Western medicine for many years.\u00a0The criticism in this model compared with the public health approach<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Literature Review:<\/strong> Searched literature in international databases by keywords: biomedical model, public\u00a0health, clinical medicine articles in the last 10 years on this issue.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Results:<\/strong> The dominance of the biomedical model which neglects the social dimensions of illness and sees\u00a0the patient not as human being but as an impersonal medical incident, has been significantly reduced.
